LUCELEC Celebrates Employees
Anthony Joseph of the Transmission and Distribution Department was named the LUCELEC Employee of the Year during the annual Staff Appreciation Ceremony at the company’s Cul-de-Sac Compound on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Gerald Sidoine is the Supervisor of the Year; Gordon Florent the Manager of the Year and Peter Cenac won a Resilience Award for going above and beyond the call of duty. All three are employed in the LUCELEC Generation Department. Leroy James who operates in the south of the island was named the Contractor of the Year.
The competitive awards were part of over 200 prizes handed to employees who were also recognized for Perfect Attendance and Length of Service.
During his address, LUCELEC Managing Director Trevor Louisy spoke of the new 4H philosophy – Happy, Healthy and Hard Working in Harmony - which would guide the company’s HR Department’s operations going forward.
“It is a philosophy that has been adopted and which has to be rolled out throughout the company. It is the guiding principle that should permeate through all our HR policies, processes, and transactions across the organisation,” said Louisy.
Louisy also reflected on what he called a tough 2012. The challenges included equipment failure at the Soufriere and Praslin substations resulting in lower than usual reliability in the south. But, he noted, there were some major successes to be celebrated, including the installation and commissioning of a new 10.2 megawatt (MW) tri-fuel engine at the power station.
“We were able to successfully expand the power station and substation right here at Cul De Sac to increase our installed generating capacity to 88.4 MW,” said Louisy. “The work was completed on schedule and without any major disruptions to normal operations. We also launched a new Customer Information System and upgraded the company’s telecommunications systems, which together will be the foundation for new and improved services to customers,” he added.
The Managing Director also encouraged his staff to embrace the company’s new vision, “to be the energy that powers the nation’s success.” The guiding principle is the backbone of the company’s immediate and future plans which include preparing and adapting for regulatory reform and continued focus on renewable energy.
This is the last year the event will be held under the existing format. The revamped and improved recognition and rewards programme will be unveiled during 2013 and is expected to ignite and sustain employee motivation by aligning employee and company goals and needs.
The LUCELEC annual Staff Appreciation ceremony was held under the theme, “Unity, the True Foundation of Success.”
