CARICOM 10K Road Race Gets LUCELEC Support

CARICOM 10K Road Race Gets LUCELEC Support

When the 8th CARICOM 10k Road Race takes place here on Sunday, July 1, it will be with the support of local power company, LUCELEC.

The CARICOM 10K road race is used as a forerunner to the Conference of Heads of Government, which will be held in St. Lucia from July 4 - 6. The CARICOM 10K is used to promote the ideals of unity, tolerance and integration among citizens, and the importance of good health as a cornerstone of regional development.

The race features athletes from across the CARICOM Region and this year will be held under the theme of “Your Health…Your Wealth”.  Additionally, nearly two hundred school children will participate in a specially arranged 5K race which kicks off on the same day.

The 10K race will start at the Aquatic Centre in Rodney Bay from 7:30 a.m. while the 5K event begins at the Glace Gas Station at the same time. Both races will end at the Bank of St. Lucia building in Castries.

A brief awards ceremony will be held immediately after the races at which the Chairman and the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are expected to be present.

LUCELEC’s Corporate Communications Manager Roger Joseph says LUCELEC is pleased to support the CARICOM 10K Road Race as the event encompasses themes such as health, wellness, youth, sports, and unity, all of which are important to the power company.
