Health and Safety Walk

More than 130 children and adults took part in the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited - LUCELEC – Fun and Wellness Walk on Sunday March 17th, 2013.  Participants walked from the LUCELEC Customer Service office in Vieux-Fort to the Moule `a Chique summit and back.

Miguel Robert was the first to cross the finish line followed in second place by Sheldon Phillip and Diaz Paul in third. In addition, first, second and third place medals were awarded to participants in the 8-12, 13-19, 20-34 and 35-49 categories.

Simon Clark and Gilbert Joseph - two LUCELEC retirees - were also awarded in the 50 Plus and 60 Plus categories respectively. Paul Flerin, the last person to finish the race was also presented with a medal. Ten lucky winners won special prizes as well.

This is the 17th annual year LUCELEC has observed March as Health and Safety Month. The intention is to encourage staff towards safe work practices as well as healthy lifestyles. Remaining activities include a health and safety quiz and a series of workshops on topics ranging from “Work Stress Management” to “Accident Prevention”.

All activities are being held at the Customer Service Office in Sans Souci and Vieux-Fort as well as the Cul-de-Sac compound. LUCELEC Health and Safety Officer Ms Pricillia Stanislas says thus far, they have been very well attended.

The theme for Health and Safety Month 2013 is “A Safe Workplace is No accident”.
