Statement on Island-Wide Outage - Friday, September 10, 2021

Castries, September 10, 2021 – At 5:37 p.m., September 10, 2021, Saint Lucia experienced an island wide power outage.

The outage was caused by a protection fault at the generating plant at Cul De Sac.  The fault tripped all of the generators, resulting in a total shutdown of the electricity system. 

After the appropriate checks and inspections, power restoration started around 7:28 p.m. and was completed at 8:02 p.m.

LUCELEC is continuing to investigate the cause of the problem and to take necessary corrective action.

LUCELEC apologises to its customers for this unplanned outage and for the inconvenience caused.
