LUCELEC Proudly Powers Saint Lucia Carnival 2023
Castries, July 20, 2023 – The creative aspects of the just concluded Lucian Carnival was GOLD Powered by the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC). In partnership with the Carnival Planning Management Committee (CPMC), these included Junior Calypso, the Calypso and Soca Monarch, Panorama and King & Queen of the Bands competitions.
LUCELEC Corporate Communications Manager Omari Frederick commended all winners and participants for their role in making the country’s marquee summer event the success it was.
“Congratulations are extended to our Carnival Queen, Miss Caribbean Galaxy, Shanice Butcher; Junior Calypso Monarchs, Yandi J and Darnel; our Calypso Monarch, Ti Blacks; Groovy Soca Monarch, Arthur Allain; Power Soca Monarch and Road March winner, Imran Nerdy; Panorama Champions; Courts Babonneau Steel Orchestra, the Band of the Year Tribe of Twel, Junior Carnival Band of the Year, Nous Wivé, and J’ouvert Band of the Year Back in Time; our King & Queen of the Bands, Ole Mas winner, the many participating individuals, community and national carnival bands, groups, sponsors, organizers and all stakeholders. Thank you for your collective contributions and for believing in the immense power of our national festival,” he said.
The South Calypso Tent, SOCA The Ultimate Tent and Kaisos Pro’s Tent (KPT) all benefitted from the longstanding relationship with LUCELEC, as did the LUCELEC Pantime Steel Orchestra who placed second in this year’s clash of the steelbands. The company also supported the 2023 Panorama Champions, Courts Babonneau Steel Orchestra. The group’s arranger is LUCELEC Construction Engineer Allison Marquis. LUCELEC also supported the Mudsters and Back In Time J’ouvert bands.
The company’s sponsorship of Carnival extended beyond the national shows and events. In keeping with its mandate to develop young creatives, it provided support for the second consecutive year to U4RIA Soundcheck. The initiative from the Teddyson John helmed concert, provides academic and field training to young people in event management, production and the performing arts. LUCELEC also increased its support of the Export Saint Lucia Export The Runway showcase of Saint Lucian designers – moving from a Gold Sponsor at inception to Presenting Sponsor this year.
In addition to Carnival being a significant contributor to the local economy, LUCELEC’s support is rooted in the belief that it’s injection is a needed boost to preserve the country’s heritage and powers the creative arts to drive positive change and create sustainable livelihoods for Saint Lucians.
Saint Lucia Carnival culminated with the annual Parade of the Bands on July 17 and 18.
