SAFETY TIPS FROM LUCELEC

Being safe when using electrical appliances, extension cords, light bulbs and other equipment is easy, and safety tips should be everyday by all members of the family. It only takes one mistake to spark an electrical fire, but simple prevention measures can be effective solutions.

  • Appliances that generate heat, such as clocks, televisions and computer monitors, should be given several inches of clearance all around for good air circulation and cooling. Do not drape clothes, toys or other items over warm appliances.

  • Always follow appliance instructions carefully, and do not attempt amateur repairs or upgrades.

  • Don't put fingers or objects into an electrical outlet, toaster, or any other appliance, even if it is off.

  • Electricity and water don’t mix. Don't use appliances - and appliance cords - near bathtubs and sinks.

  • Don't climb trees near power lines.

  • Don't fly kites or balloons around power lines. Electricity can travel down the strings of kites or balloons that become tangled in power lines, and can cause fire or shock.

  • Don't ever try to remove anything from a power line. If you see something stuck in a power line, tell an adult or call LUCELEC emergency lines at:
