Free Energy Auditing Workshops for the Public
Several agencies are collaborating to host a public education campaign on energy auditing next week. The campaign involves a series of workshops that will teach the basics of energy auditing. The workshops will be open to the public and are free.
The campaign is being spearheaded by CARILEC (Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation) with funding from the International Development Bank (IDB). LUCELEC, the Ministry of Physical Development, SLASPA (St. Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority), Monroe College and Sandals are also assisting.
CARILEC’s Training Services Coordinator Laurena Primus says the sessions will provide very practical tips for auditing energy usage and for managing energy use.
“Participants will be taught what to look for when purchasing appliances, how to calculate how much energy an appliance is likely to use, the optimum placement of electrical appliances in the home, and how to read their electricity bills, among other things,” Miss Primus explained.
The workshops that are open to the public will be held on Monday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the SLASPA Training Room at the Hewannora Airport, and on Tuesday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Monroe College, Barnard Hill, in Castries.
SLASPA will host one of the workshops at its Training Room in Castries on Tuesday afternoon for its staff from La Place Carenage and the George F. L. Charles Airport. Sandals Resorts will also host one of the workshops for staff of its three properties on Wednesday, November 16.
The Energy Auditing public education campaign forms part of activities for Energy Awareness Week being observed next week.
