Statement On Island Wide Power Shutdown

Statement On Island Wide Power Shutdown

At 12:57 a.m. today (Monday November 9, 2015) the island experienced a total shut down of the power system.

The shutdown was linked to an earlier lightning strike that broke two high voltage lines on a major circuit in Augier, Vieux-Fort. That incident occurred at 12:26 a.m. and led to three generators at LUCELEC’s Cul-de-Sac facility shutting down resulting in a loss of power to some parts of the system. In attempting to restore the network from that initial fault, the power system shut down at 12:57 a.m.

This year, the session has been scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2015 and will discuss “Regulatory Reform of the Electricity Sector”.

The lone school in District Six without a feeding programme, some students did not attend classes because they had nothing to eat. School Principal Francis Moonie says this will change with the garden and kitchen facilities provided by the LUCELEC Trust.
