YEF Final Installment Delivered

YEF Final Installment Delivered

St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has presented its final instalment in a three year $45,000 commitment to the Youth Environment Forum (YEF). The $15,000 cheque was handed over on Thursday July 18, 2013 at the studio of the Government Information Service.

The objective of the YEF, now into its fifth year, is to expose young minds to new ways of thinking about the environment; making them advocates who encourage society to consider the environment in their everyday life.

Administered by the Saint Lucia National Trust, the YEF designs its activities and messages around yearly themes. LUCELEC Corporate Communications Manager Roger Joseph says the company has been very impressed “with the way the Trust has sought to ensure the YEF remains relevant and current through the themes that have been chosen over the years.”

That extends to this year’s theme, “Think. Eat. Save”

“The theme promotes the concept of sustainable consumption, generally – to use just what we need; a concept that has been popular with efficiency and management experts for some time, that of doing more and better with less,” says Mr Joseph.

This year’s programme of activities is expected to help participants be more aware of their food print and economic and environmental impact of food waste and loss.

As it has in the past, the week-long event will be staged in the north and south of the island. Open to children between the ages of 7 and 8, organizers expect to train youth advocates for environmental change through the use of interactive presentations and exciting field trips.

LUCELEC expects to continue engaging the Saint Lucia National Trust on future support of the YEF.
