Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) will host its annual Staff Appreciation Awards on Friday February 21, 2014 under the theme, “50 Years of Powering Lives, Dreams and Communities…50 Years of Powering the Nations Success.”

A record number of awards are expected to be handed out in various categories including 58 Perfect Attendance and 7 Employee of the Fourth Quarter awards. In addition, 40 employees will be recognized for Length of Service and 4 retirees will receive the Retirees Award.

The basic tariff for electricity has been reduced.  Starting with bills for February and continuing the remainder of the year, the basic electricity tariff will be 2.6 cents less than the tariff for 2013.

The basic tariff is what LUCELEC customers pay per unit of electricity without the fuel surcharge. It is reviewed in January of every year in accordance with the Electricity Supply Act and reflects the average price of fuel for the preceding 12 months. 

Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) welcomes news the Government of Saint Lucia (GOSL) has invited a World Bank Team to evaluate and quantify the geothermal resource at a number of locations in Soufriere namely Fond Doux, Belle Plain and Belle Fond. 

The team will assess technical issues and evaluate the impact of developing the resource as a potential source of energy.
