YEF Final Installment Delivered

St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has presented its final instalment in a three year $45,000 commitment to the Youth Environment Forum (YEF). The $15,000 cheque was handed over on Thursday July 18, 2013 at the studio of the Government Information Service.

The objective of the YEF, now into its fifth year, is to expose young minds to new ways of thinking about the environment; making them advocates who encourage society to consider the environment in their everyday life.

Tropical Storm Chantal Caused No Major Power System Issues

Tropical Storm Chantal caused no major problems with the electricity infrastructure.

St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) is reporting that the power system fared very well throughout the storm.  There was no damage to infrastructure and the majority of customers had electricity throughout the storm.

In the north there were some isolated incidents of power fluctuations in some areas, small areas being without power, some reports of branches falling on lines and taking these lines to the ground, and two cases of meters being pulled off their mountings.

Lucian Carnival gets LUCELEC Support

On Tuesday July 9, St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) employee Malaika Chester will challenge nine others for the title of Inter-commercial Calypso Monarch 2013. Miss Chester is employed in the LUCELEC Generation Department; she won the title in 2011. 

Miss Chester who goes by the stage name “Miss Kitty” will compete with “Missing You,” a calypso written by Jon “Buffalo” Odlum. It is a description of old Saint Lucian values and an appeal for their return.
